Phoenix Alcantara, commonly known under his codename Solaris, is the apparent leader and founder of Team Meteor, as well as the father of Taka.
Solaris is extremely faithful and incredibly serious about his goals as the leader of Team Meteor. He will not hesitate to eliminate anyone in his way and will do about anything to complete his missions, no matter how morally questionable his methods might be. Solaris believes that when his goals are complete, Reborn will be purified and return to what it once was. Despite being the leader of a terrorist organization, he has some honor and dignity to anyone he faces, and is notably impressed by the player in particular.
Story Events[]
Rhodochrine Jungle[]
An unnamed Solaris is first seen in a cutscene while the player is navigating Rhodochrine Jungle, where he heads off to North Obsidia, taking Victoria with him and ordering the remaining Meteors to protect the nearby PULSE.
Grand Stairway[]
Solaris is later encountered outside the gate under the Grand Stairway, although he is not named until later. He tells the player about the history of Reborn City, revealing that Reborn's very core lies behind the gate, while expressing distaste at the city that has been built above it, vowing to bring together the four keys needed to open the gate to restore Reborn to its "proper" state. He then promises the player that they and Victoria may safely leave the Grand Stairway before making an exit himself.
Blacksteam Factory[]
Solaris next appears in Blacksteam Factory alongside ZEL and |PULSE-Muk. When the player arrives, he congratulates them on making it this far before introducing them to the PULSE, explaining its purpose as a weapon to pollute the lake and chase people away. However, he explains, the PULSE is suffering and destroying itself, to which Eve apologizes for the incomplete project and reveals Solaris's name. He then threatens the player with his Garchomp; however, Amaria intervenes and freezes the Garchomp with her Kingdra.
Solaris then notices Amaria's Sapphire Bracelets, and when she refuses to give them to him, she and Solaris battle while the player fights ZEL in an attempt to deactivate the pulse. After the player defeats ZEL and the PULSE, Solaris calls for Team Meteor to retreat, noting that the PULSE has poisoned the lake already before ordering his Tyranitar to attack Amaria directly.
Pyrous Mountain[]
Solaris is next encountered alongside Taka and Cal when the player, Cain and Victoria confront them atop Pyrous Mountain in the hopes of deactivating their PULSE-Camerupt. With Cain already overwhelmed by virtue of having been outnumbered, Solaris orders Taka to fight Victoria while he engages the player with just his Garchomp - regardless of the outcome of this battle, the story progresses with no major differences. Once Solaris's battle with the player is over, Kiki arrives and attempts to destroy the PULSE with her Medicham; however, she is blocked by Cal on Solaris's orders. He then orders his Garchomp to execute Kiki. Shocked at Solaris' actions, Cal then turns on Team Meteor and destroys the PULSE with his Magmortar. After the PULSE is destroyed, Solaris orders Team Meteor to retreat from the failed operation.
Fiore Mansion[]
After leaving Pyrous Mountain, Solaris is not seen again until Team Meteor's attack on Fiore Mansion, where he is accompanied by Sirius, Fern and Blake in his attempts to retrieve the Sapphire Bracelets. Upon entering the house, he is met by Florinia, Julia and the player, at which point he states that Team Meteor will leave peacefully as long as the Sapphire Bracelets are ceded to him - an ultimatum which is rejected wholeheartedly by Julia.
After Florinia and the player defeat a pair of grunts and Florinia refuses to trade the bracelets for her brother's life, Solaris orders Blake and Fern to take them on instead, revealing to Florinia that her brother has sided with Team Meteor. The story changes after Blake and Fern are defeated depending on whether the player successfully won against Solaris's Garchomp on Pyrous Mountain.
Once Blake and Fern have been defeated, Solaris and Orderly John then battle Florinia and the player. Julia then breaks through a nearby window.
After Solaris has been defeated, a Meteor reports that the helicopter outside has been destroyed. Solaris then orders Sirius to burn the mansion down with his Chandelure, to which Titania responds by flooding the house with water from Amaria's Gym. Solaris and the rest of Team meteor then retreat, Solaris resolving to get Lin involved.
Agate City[]
Solaris's next appearance is during Team Meteor's attack on Agate City. Solaris demands to take on the player alone once they and Hardy have defeated the team's grunts.
Plot Split!
The plot here varies depending on whether or not the player battles Taka in the Water Treatment Center and whether the player allows him to tag along in Tourmaline Desert. |
After the player defeats Solaris, Sirius remarks that "perhaps a soft bite runs in the family", to which Taka responds by attacking Sirius with his Chatot. With the Team Meteor grunts forced to take on the heroes themselves, Solaris in turn reprimands Taka for his defiance, after which he flees to the north with Sirius and Solaris in tow.
After the player defeats Solaris, Sirius taunts him about his failure, eventually revealing to him that Taka was killed as a result of Lin's actions. Sirius then begins lambasting Solaris's leadership abilities, declaring himself more fit to lead Team Meteor, after which Solaris flees to the north. Sirius calls him a fool and chases after him.

Labradorra City[]
During the raid on Labradorra City, Solaris is confronted by Taka, who has lost an eye to Sirius and who now breaks his ties to Team Meteor completely. Solaris insists that Taka still lacks assertiveness and resolve even now that he's chosen his own path. Once Taka leaves, he remarks that he's glad Taka's abandoning the "sinking ship" that is Meteor now that Lin has seized control.
The player and Victoria later encounter Solaris held captive in a cell during the raid on Labradorra City. He is revealed to have an eye removed and can barely see. Victoria threatens to kill him and avenge Kiki, but is talked out of it by Cal before the two leave. Solaris then laments his fate, and askes the player whether they too want to see him dead. Regardless of the answer, he wonders whether he can still make a difference and leaves.
Later, when the player leaves Labradorra City after defeating Terra, they will encounter Solaris waiting in the path ahead. Solaris explains that the rest of Team Meteor charged on ahead into Victory Road and have abandoned his original purpose for Team Meteor before releasing his Garchomp and ordering it to seemingly attack the player.
Lin is then revealed to be standing behind the player and the target of Solaris's attack, but Lin stops the Garchomp before it can do her any harm. The player is then knocked to the side while Solaris and Lin fight as the screen cuts to black. Further ahead, a blood stain will then lead to the presumably-dead Solaris, one loyal Meteor grunt attempting to save him with her Sylveon. The player and Victoria later encounter Solaris held captive in a cell during the raid on Labradorra City. Charous Path[]
Solaris is then encountered on a ledge high up Charous Mountain within Victory Road, where Victoria confronts him and threatens to kill him for his crimes. Solaris questions the morality of her motivation, explaining that he too sought revenge for his parents' death and let that guilt guide him to create Team Meteor in an attempt to make the world better. He then dares her to push him off the ledge, but Victoria cannot follow through. Cal then shows up and convinces Victoria to stand down.
After the player leaves the area to the right, the game cuts back to Solaris, who is confronted by Lin. Solaris does not attempt to fight Lin, having resigned himself to his fate, but asks if he can get a few answers before she kills him. He then asks her whether she planned her takeover from the beginning and what kind of New World she wants to create; Lin only gives vague answers before attacking Solaris before he can ask any more questions and pushing him off the ledge.Solaris doesn't appear here on this route.
