Shade is the Ghost type Gym Leader of the Reborn League. He hands out the Omen Badge, the 4th Gym Badge the player receives.
Shade is a very mysterious man that can seemingly disappear and reappear effortlessly. Many people believe he isn't human and wonder if he's actually dead. He seems to only speak in riddles or very short words. Shade doesn't seem to be completely avoidant of people, however, as he is willing to talk in an interview and is supposedly Anna's friend.
Story Events[]
Tourmaline Desert[]
Shade first appears in Tourmaline Desert, briefly manifesting inside the train that the player travels on to reach Reborn City. His appearance tips Ame off that something is wrong; enabling her to save the player and herself from the ensuing train crash.
Lapis Ward[]
He is next encountered when the player first enters Lapis Ward, where he will suddenly appear and remove Corey's body following the latter's suicide.
Yureyu Power Plant[]
Shade is next seen in the Yureyu Power Plant after the player arrives the underground railnet, where the power source was off and Anna suggested that the player can go ask Shade to turn on the backup power source. After losing to the player, Shade agrees to power up the railnet. After seeing the events in the railnet, he tells the player, "...So dying souls offer the keys to your gain... ...Let not them suffer to the poison in vain." before disappearing.
Water Treatment Center[]
He is later encountered after the Water Treatment Center incident, where he reminds the player about the screens in his gym, and that "only two will be taken" before disappearing.
Glass Workstation[]
Shade is next encountered at the Glass Workstation where, as revealed by the explanations of Radomus, he pulls the player out of the void created by Gossip Gardevoir, and is also revealed to be a good friend of Luna's and even asked her to come at the Glass Workstation (which Anna asked him to do).

A special report from... the Investigation Squad!
Yo, Reborn City! What's up?! We're here with the Reborn Rundown giving you a look at the leaders of the Reborn League! I'm your host, DJ Arclight, now on air! We've got some sort of mystery for you today, viewers. Let's talk about Shade, the Ghost Gym Leader. Most people aren't all that sure if Shade is human, a ghost himself, or maybe something else entirely! Given that he rarely speaks, and when he does, he seldom makes common sense, there's not a whole lot we can tell you about this entity. In battle, look out for his ace Pokemon, Mimikyu! That Pokemon hides nearly as much as the leader himself does, but rather than a sinister smile to top it off, Mimikyu's Disguise makes it hard to hit. Do your best not to let it get the jump on you... or else! That's all for now, but remember, Trainers, Keep fighting with everything you've got! Hold your spirits high, and even you can defeat the Reborn League! |

Trivia[]
- His name, Shade, can mean either darkness or a ghost.
- His Gengar is named after Corey, as well, implying it may very well be him- especially given that it's the only one of his Pokemon with a nickname.
- If you play with the brightness in his trainer sprite, the word "DIE" will be revealed inside his coat.
- This is no longer true of his Episode 19 sprite.
- Shade's battle music is actually the same as that of other ordinary gym leaders, but is played in reverse. Shade and Terra are the only gym leaders with unique music.
- It is implied that Shade is involved in the following cases:
