Transitions from Other Fields[]
- Water Surface and Underwater will transform into this Field upon one use of the move Acid Downpour or two uses of the move Sludge Wave. If Underwater is transformed into Murkwater Surface through Sludge Wave, all non-Poison and non-Steel-type Pokémon on the field will faint, except Pokémon in the semi-invulnerable turn of a move.
General Effects[]
- Grounded Pokémon have their Speed decreased by 0.75x, unless they are Water-type or have one of the abilities Surge Surfer or Swift Swim
- Water-type moves increase in base power by 1.5x and gain Poison as a secondary type
- Poison-type moves increase in base power by 1.5x
- Electric-type moves used against grounded Pokémon increase in base power by 1.3x
- Ground-type attacks, as well as the move Sand Attack, always fail
Field damage[]
At the end of each turn, all Pokémon on the field that are grounded and not Poison or Steel-type take damage equal to some part of their maximum HP, which scales based on the effectiveness of Poison against the Pokémon, being 1/8 for normal effectiveness.
- Pokémon are immune to this damage if they have one of the abilities Immunity, Magic Guard, Poison Heal, Toxic Boost or Wonder Guard
- This damage increases by 2x against Pokémon that have one of the abilities Dry Skin, Flame Body, Magma Armor or Water Absorb
- This damage increases by 4x against Pokémon that are underwater (i.e., in the semi-invulnerable turn of Dive)

- Gooey now lowers Speed by 2 stages upon activation
- Damage caused by Liquid Ooze is doubled
- Stench’s activation chance is doubled (to 20%)
- Merciless, Schooling, Surge Surfer, Swift Swim and Toxic Boost are activated
- Water Compaction is activated at the end of each turn
- Dry Skin and Water Absorb additionally restore 1/8 of the bearer's maximum HP each turn if it is grounded and Poison-type
- Poison Heal additionally restores 1/8 of the bearer's maximum HP each turn if it is grounded
