Cool story, bro.
Blake Whitaker is the brother of Cal, and the former Ice-type Gym Leader of Reborn.
Blake is arrogant, spiteful and dislikeable to about everyone he meets. He curses in about any sentence can say and insults practically anyone without hesitation. Blake strongly hates his brother, Cal, despite Cal saying Blake always got the attention between the two of them.

In the games[edit | edit source]
Blake is first mentioned from Cal, who admits to the player that he has spent most of his life trying to one up his brother Blake and escape from his shadow. Solaris later mentions that Cal is useless unlike his brother Blake.
Cain later says that Heather is adopted by him, so Cain decides to do gym battles again when he confirmed it. Shelly later hears about this and worries about Heather due to only hearing bad things about Blake (most likely from Cal). The player and Shelly later go to Ametrine City to save the city from starvation and to check on Heather.

This article contains plot details about events that occur later in the game. |
Blake is first met at Ametrine City, telling the player and Shelly to get out of a house with information regarding the beta PULSE Machine and the origin of ZEL. Upon being asked the whereabouts of Heather, Blake makes it quick to the point that he is a part of Team Meteor by asking for the ring in return for HMX5 Waterfall and Heather's location. Blake then either steals the ring or trades it with the player.

Plot Split!
Depending if you gave Blake the Ruby Ring or not, the events during Ametrine City will be different. |

Give the Ruby Ring[edit | edit source]
If the player gives Blake the ring, they are given HMX5 Waterfall and told a hint that the secret entrance is in the apartment somewhere in the apartment [NOTE: You are given HMX5 Waterfall later regardless if you choose to give Blake the ring].
Upon finding the secret entrance, Shelly and the player go to the shed where they find Heather inside, however Cal arrives and Shelly is scared off by him due to Cal's past anger towards her. Cal releases Heather, who after some explanation takes off to stop Team Meteor while Cal goes on ahead to stop them.
The player then makes their way up the mountain with Shelly, where upon reaching a large flight of stairs, is pushed down and caught by Cal who very briefly tries to makeup with her. Shelly stays behind to think about what just happened, and the player and Cal team up to climb the rest of the mountain up until Blake pushes Cal off. The player then reaches the peak of the mountain and fights Blake.
Keep the Ruby Ring[edit | edit source]
Finding out that the player has the ring, Blake will steal the ring and make a getaway, leaving Heather's location a mystery. However, when the player steps outside of the building, they are greeted with a newly blue-dyed-hair Cal, who apologizes to Shelly for losing his temper in the past due to his drive to surpass his brother Blake and makes amends with Shelly. Cal then tells the player that Blake's apartment has a secret passage and takes off to stop Team Meteor.
After finding the secret door, the player and Shelly make their way to a shed with Heather inside. Setting her free, Shelly and Heather make up with one another and take to the sky to catch up with Blake. The player then teams up with Cal and Shelly on their pursuit after Blake up Ametrine Mountain. Before reaching the peak, the player is stopped by Aster in attempt to stop them (Due to the player wasting slightly more time from refusing Blake). After defeating Aster, he gives the player TMX Waterfall and bids farewell. Upon reaching the peak, Shelly is defeated in battle and Blake fights the player.
After the battle ends, Cal and Heather fly by and attack Blake, stealing the ring in the process. Blake makes his escape, telling the group that there was never a signal making Agate City fall asleep on the mountain and Heather gets her Ruby Ring back. After Heather and Shelly decide to go return the food supplies to the town people, Cal discusses that the person (Terra) who tipped them off about a signal was lying, and offers the player a lift back down.
During the void sequence in the Glass Workstation, a sequence plays where a younger version of Blake physically hurt a younger version of Cal, causing him to also run away. As the player walks through the void, its seems to reveal why Blake hates Cal so much. When they were younger, Blake and Cal got kicked out of the house by their father when Cal did something wrong, leaving them in the cold snow. Cal apologizes to Blake and asks if their father would be mad after this. Blake replies that Cal isn't sorry, and tells him he rather be like their father then his brother.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Blake's name is a word play on 'Flake" in snowflake.
- Blake and Cal's relationship can be related to Cain and Abel, where Blake is the Cain to Cal's Abel.
- Before EP17, Blake's ace was Walrein (especially during the online league). This was changed to Alolan Sandslash, although the appearance of it does match Blake's hairstyle.
- During the online league, Blake was actually less aggressive than he is in the game (although he was still a jerk). He also temporarily adopted Heather before she left the league. [1]
